Many web pages are changing their addresses sooner or later. Usually the webservers should then rely on the HTTP protocol to redirect the visitor's browser to the new address. The visitors will then most likely not even notice that they were redirected.
But sometimes a web site is not using the HTTP protocol. Instead, the site announces the redirect in the HTML document of the web page. It can be done directly with JavaScript or a Meta tag, or indirectly with frames or iframes. None of these solutions is very good, and some have even serious impact on the web page.

What is a web server?
As soon as you load a website with you browser you have been practically communicating with a web server. Your browser has sent the address of the site you want to visit to a web server system belonging to the address. The web server then collected the content for this address and delivered it to your browser.
The most commonly used web server is the free system Apache HTTP (version 1 and 2). It is followed by various versions of Microsofts commercial Webserver IIS.
